‘Alive In California, 2019’ captures Radere’s appearance at the 2019 Chillits Festival, an annual experimental music event that takes place in Laytonville, California.

Prepared on the road as the artist traveled along the Pacific coast with his partner in the days leading up to the festival, this performance marked a major departure from Radere’s recent synth-focused works. Instead, he returned to his original instrument – the guitar – to create sweeping drones, accompanied by tape loops, dynamic no-input mixer feedback and various electronics.

This set was delivered in the early hours of the morning, under the Harvest Moon.

“September 14, Laytonville” is accompanied by “Breath [Waves Loop]” – which is a collage of field recordings captured on a past trip to the Caribbean. Over the course of his time working in California, Radere processed, layered and looped these elements to provide a dynamic, yet meditative, aural environment that has served as a backdrop for upcoming performances.

A unique entry in Radere’s ever-expanding catalog, ‘Alive In California, 2019’ is a humble snapshot of his process-at-work and serves as a declarative statement of intent for upcoming projects.
