about

'Dzud' compiles a series of deep guitar zones, tape loops and no-input feedback experiments that have formed the core of my live performance practice these past few months [c. September 2019 - April 2020].

Recorded at home in the spring of 2020 – during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown – 'Dzud' is my way of "clearing the deck," so to speak, in order to set the stage for new ideas. With no way to properly perform them live, I wanted to finalize these ideas and get them out of my system.

The album takes its name from the Mongolian term for a particularly lethal winter weather phenomena that is unique to the country, which often leads to mass starvation, livestock die-off and economic destitution. In the modern era, human activity has amplified the severity of these occurrences.

I hope you enjoy it.
